Flower Care

For beautiful, long-lasting flowers, follow these simple steps:

1. Pour fresh, cold water and a few drops of bleach into a clean vase.

2. Unwrap the flowers and place the stems into a container of water. Carefully cut 1/2 inch of the end of each stem with a sharp knife or scissors. Remove any leaves that may fall below the water line. Foliage left in water will discolor the water, create odour and promote disease. To decorate your display, try placing stones, pebbles etc into the base of the vase. These stones will also help support the flowers.

3. For best results, re-cut the stems, change the vase water, and add a few drops of bleach every 2-3 days. Keeping the flowers out of direct sunlight, heat or drafts will help extend their life as well.

These simple flower care steps will also be included with all flowers purchased from our Studio. Please contact us if you have any further queries or require additional information.

 Additional Flower Care Tips

When cutting the flowers, try not to "saw" the flowers - make a clean cut of the stem instead. Cut the stems at a slight angle, which will create a greater surface area from which the stem can absorb water.

Do not display flowers on top of appliances that give off heat (e.g. televisions)

Always put your flowers in a clean vase. Wash and rinse the vase before using. This will get eliminate bacteria and residue that may harm flowers.

Do not store flowers near fresh fruit. Fruit emits ethylene gas, which is harmful to flowers and can age them prematurely. Flowers purchased from outdoor points of sale will also be affected by ethylene gas, from passing vehicle traffic. The quality of these flowers is questionable.

If your floral purchase includes roses, you can remove a few of the outer petals if they are discolored. These outer petals are called "guard" petals and help protect the flower during shipping. Roses benefit enormously from having their ends re-cut every 2-3 days. This will help reduce the risk of blockage in the stems. When this occurs, the head of the flower will droop. If you have any problems with Roses purchased from our Studio, please give us a call.

If your floral purchase includes lilies, be careful of the stamens in the centre of the flower- the pollen may stain fabric. If a piece of fabric rubs against the pollen, use clear tape to lift the pollen dust off the fabric. Do not rub the stain.  To eliminate this problem, gently remove the unpollinated stamens from the centre of the bloom as it first opens. Lilies are a truly beautiful and longlasting flower. Follow these tips and enjoy them always!
